OtaPOS

A lightweight POS platform for events

In development2026 — NOWSolo project

OtaPOS is a browser-based point-of-sale service for exhibitors selling goods at fan conventions, school festivals and small events. Exhibitors can register products, manage stock and record sales through POS. Visitors can browse a public catalog and check product availability. An event information Board is also being developed.

Background & purpose

At events such as Comic Market, I found that even a booth with a long queue could make it difficult to tell what was on sale or whether an item was still in stock. Regular attendees may research what to buy through social media beforehand, but first-time visitors can struggle to find booths for the works and genres they enjoy. I also considered the communication difficulties that can arise between international visitors and exhibitors during orders. OtaPOS grew from the idea of connecting booth and product discovery, shared inventory information, and on-site sales management in one place, with multilingual order communication as a future goal. It is intended to complement existing social media and sales tools, not necessarily replace them.

POS / GUIDE / BOARD

How OtaPOS works

Service/Dash manages event settings and products, while POS/Board and Guide access sales and stock data through the same API.

QR orders, queue tickets and consignment sales are planned extensions.

01 / OVERVIEW

Overview

The goal is to connect two experiences: helping visitors find products, booths, and stock information, while giving exhibitors a straightforward way to manage on-site sales.

02 / MY CONTRIBUTION

My contributions

Independent project · Planning, architecture, frontend, backend and deployment

01

Planned requirements and designed the system architecture

02

Built the service, POS and information-board interfaces with Next.js

03

Developed Spring Boot APIs for products, stock and sales

04

Configured Supabase PostgreSQL, Vercel, Render and environment variables

05

Investigated authentication, CORS and deployment issues and retested fixes

03 / PROCESS

Approach

The service is built around three interfaces—POS, Guide and Board—that share sales and stock information for an event. QR order slips, ticketed queues and consignment sales are ideas for later phases.

Implementation and challenges

Current challenges include keeping UI and API state synchronized, deploying reliably and planning for concurrent event traffic.

Key features

  • POS: product registration, checkout, sales history and inventory
  • Guide: a public product catalog and stock information
  • Board: on-site announcements and sales status
  • Future ideas: QR order slips, ticketed queues and consignment sales
